Outsourcing the purchasing of filter elements — identification, sourcing, logistics, custom-built elements
Our trade is not selling filters one at a time: it is taking on, for an industrial site, the purchasing function that relates to its filter elements. Four links, in the order they run.
The four links
-
Identifying the requirement. We start from what you have to hand — an element taken off, a marking read, a dimension, a drawing, the machine it came out of — and work back to the medium, the fineness and the dimensions. This is the link that takes the most craft, because a worn marking or a reference discontinued by its manufacturer has no automatic answer.
-
Sourcing across manufacturers. For the same requirement we approach several manufacturers and compare what is comparable: medium, fineness, temperature limit, compatibility, mounting geometry. Not depending on a single range is what makes it possible to offer an alternative when a reference disappears. The brands we name belong to their respective owners, and we claim no connection with them.
-
Logistics and follow-up. We group a site’s requirements, keep the history of what was fitted and where, and follow consumption so that renewals are anticipated rather than discovered. We are not stockholders: we organise supply, which is a different trade — and we would rather say so than let anyone assume immediate availability.
-
Custom-built elements. When no market reference fits — a non-standard dimension, a medium imposed by the process, an unusual end cap, a length no range offers — the element is made to drawing or to sample. That calls for a witness part or a recorded dimension, and the medium sought.
What it changes for a purchasing department
An industrial site buys filter elements from dozens of suppliers, for modest unit amounts and with high criticality. That is the worst possible combination for a purchasing function: too many references to follow, too little value in each to justify the attention, and a production stoppage at the end of it if one is missing.
Three things change when the function is outsourced. The number of contacts comes down to one. Identification stops being an archaeological exercise repeated at every order, because the history is built once. And dependence on a single manufacturer loosens, since the alternative is looked for before it becomes necessary.
What it does not change: the technical decision stays yours. We document what we propose, with the manufacturer’s documentation, so that you can check it.
What to send us
Six items are almost always enough to converge at the first exchange:
- what you filter — the nature of the fluid or dust, with the product safety documentation if you have it;
- the service conditions — temperature, pressure, flow;
- the fineness expected, or the result expected if you do not know the fineness;
- the dimensions of the element in place and its marking, even partial;
- the type of machine, housing or vessel;
- the quantity and consumption rate, which decide the packaging as much as the price.
One photograph of the whole part, then a second of its end close up, often replace half an hour of description.
