Process filtration
Pleated cartridges
Pleated media cartridges for liquid and gas filtration, with a nominal or absolute rating.
Pleating takes filter area well beyond that of a wound cartridge of the same size, lengthening the cycle between changes. Rating, media type and end-cap seal type govern interchangeability.
Radial flow and retention on the pleats
- Liquid to be filtered — it arrives in the volume surrounding the cartridge, between the housing wall and the crest of the pleats.
- Crossing — the liquid enters at the crest and travels towards the core. The pleat is not an ornament: within the envelope of the housing it packs an area of media that a bare tube could not offer.
- Retention — particles stay on the upstream face, in the valleys of the pleats. It is that deposit which drives the pressure drop up, not wear of the media.
- Filtrate — the filtered liquid gathers in the perforated core and leaves through the open end fitting, at one end only.
Flow always runs from the outside towards the core: it is the end fitting, and it alone, that says which way round the cartridge is fitted.
Values read from the documents cited
Each value is read from the document its mark refers to. It places the family; it does not describe its full extent. Where the family has published sheets, what those sheets actually carry is stated under the value.
